Crispy, golden, and packed with spiced potato filling — the perfect appetizer, snack, or party food.

Introduction

If you love crispy snacks with bold flavor, these Irresistible Potato Samosas will quickly become your go-to recipe. Samosas are one of the most iconic street foods of South Asia — crunchy pastry triangles filled with warm, spiced potatoes, peas, herbs, and aromatics.

This version is beginner-friendly, requires simple ingredients, and guarantees a flaky exterior with a soft, flavorful filling. Whether you serve them for parties, holidays, Ramadan, Diwali, or just a cozy evening snack, these samosas always disappear instantly.

Ingredients 🧂

For the samosa dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp oil or melted butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup water (approx., adjust as needed)

For the potato filling

  • 3 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • ½ cup green peas (optional)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1–2 green chilies, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt to taste

For frying

  • Oil for deep frying

Timing ⏱️

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Filling: 10 minutes
  • Shaping: 15 minutes
  • Frying: 10 minutes
  • Total: ~55 minutes

Step-by-Step Instructions 👩‍🍳

1 — Make the dough

In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and oil. Rub with fingertips until sandy.
Add water gradually and knead into a firm, smooth dough.
Cover and rest for 20 minutes.

2 — Prepare the potato filling

  1. Heat oil in a skillet.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  3. Add onions and sauté until soft.
  4. Add green chilies.
  5. Add turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  6. Add mashed potatoes and peas.
  7. Mix well and cook 2–3 minutes.
  8. Finish with lemon juice and cilantro.

Let the filling cool completely before assembling.

3 — Shape the samosas

  1. Divide dough into small balls and roll each into an oval shape.
  2. Cut the oval in half to form two semi-circles.
  3. Take one semi-circle and form a cone by sealing the straight edge with water.
  4. Fill the cone with potato filling.
  5. Seal the top edges firmly.

Repeat for all samosas.

4 — Fry until golden

Heat oil on medium-low.
Fry samosas for 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally, until crispy and golden brown.

Low heat ensures the shell becomes flaky.

5 — Serve hot

Serve with:

  • Mint chutney
  • Tamarind sauce
  • Garlic yogurt
  • Spicy ketchup

Perfect for tea-time, parties, or snacking.

Variations 🌟

  • Cheese Samosas: Add mozzarella or paneer to the filling.
  • Sweet Potato Samosas: Use mashed sweet potato instead of regular potato.
  • Air Fryer Samosas: Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 12–14 minutes.
  • Vegan Samosas: Already vegan unless using butter — swap for oil.

Pro Tips for Perfect Samosas 🔥

  • Dough should be firm, not soft — this creates flaky shells.
  • Fry on medium-low heat so the pastry cooks through.
  • Do not overfill or they may burst in oil.
  • Seal edges tightly with water or flour paste.

Storing Tips 🧊

  • Refrigerate: 2–3 days
  • Freeze uncooked samosas: up to 2 months
  • Fry directly from frozen — no thawing needed

Conclusion 💛

These Irresistible Potato Samosas are crunchy, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying — the kind of appetizer that makes everyone ask for seconds (and the recipe!).

Perfect for gatherings, snacks, or whenever you crave something savory and golden.
